Death Sleep

When the world shuts its weary eyes and drifts into slumber, the vampires play and don their masks of life. However, when those of the mortal realm rise, those of darkness must evade the coming storm of sunlight and find their own ways to replenish.

The Death Sleep manifests differently in various vampires:

Those of the Elder Blood, tied to the ancient Void, drift off and float in the darkness of their minds. Their bodies die but remain in their current state, while their subconscious swims in an endless chasm of darkness. They are dead to the world. Within this sleep, visions may occur, interactions with other beings might happen, or they can even be transported to different planes where their souls are educated or bound. During this state, their energies recharge, and their power is restored to its fullest. Wounds regenerate, powers are renewed, as they draw back to their source to rekindle the fire of the blackest flame—returning to their true lord, Mordrak, where all are connected.

Those of Alchemical power, created using stolen blood or bound to entities, find themselves in a peculiar predicament. When the sun rises, no matter their location, they wither into a death-like state similar to their kin but instead twist into mangled corpses in a horrifying retelling of their demise. In unrelenting agony, their power attempts to leave their vessels and rejoin the Void, the infernal planes, or simply hide from the celestial might. Yet, they find themselves bound to their bodies. There is no greater torment, as vampires of alchemy, on the brink of oblivion, writhe so violently they lose their minds. Those near them become either prey or casualties of the vampire's loss of lucidity.

The Cursed Ones from different worlds find themselves on neither spectrum. Some do not sleep and therefore do not replenish. Some do not require hiding from the sunlight and therefore do not sleep. There are as many variations in their nature as there are vampiric types that exist beyond the Veil and within it.

One truth exists across all versions- a vampire is most vulnerable when it is at rest.
