Renascence Wells

The solution to the vampire's plight: how to survive without annihilating the entire population.

There were the farms, yes, and the raids, of course. However, Davidross Velorean discovered something far greater and much less barbaric. By using the ancient alchemical symbols of life, blood, undeath, and void, when these symbols were transfixed to an item such as a goblet or, say, a well, they could slow the process of energetic decay and increase the yield. But there was one problem: the magical cost (mana) for such a spell was so immense that it either taxed the creator with every use or forced an immediate power-down of the imbued item. The only solution was to ensure the blood's energy was potent enough to aid in the ritual. This required a sacrifice, one of immense horror and fear, of gruesome and traumatic death. Thus, the Crimson Waltz was enacted—a ritual of great sacrifice to keep their kind from wiping out all of mortality.
